Ariana DeBose, who played Anita, was the star of the show on Oscars night and accepted her Best Supporting Actress award while expressing her pride at achieving her dream as an openly queer woman of color in the industry. Born in Mississippi, Harris competed for her university team and played for the USA at the Olympics, where she became the first woman to score an Olympic basket.
